About Larry Volz

"Fluxonium" from my invention/steampunk-tech-themed magic show.

Hi everyone, I'm Larry. Sometimes people call me "Doc".

Before going into software engineering full-time, web development and systems programming had been a sideline of mine for decades.

As an escape room owner I have created embedded systems from scratch (C/C++/Python/ Arduino/Raspberry Pi) to be hidden in devious puzzles designed to challenge and entertain my players. (moo ha haaaa!!)

I've built dozens of websites over the years for small businesses (HTML/CSS/WordPress) including a full-stack CRM for a national therapist referral company (JavaScript/PHP/SQL).

I built the website you're looking at now using mostly jQuery and Bootstrap.

A few years ago I decided to turn my love of software development into a full-time profession and went back to school. At this writing I am two classes away from an associates in computer science (I have a bachelor's degree in physical science as well). I have taken college coursework in Java, Python, operating systems, software engineering, networking & communications, SQL and web programming.

Recently I was also accepted into Springboard's competitive full-stack software engineering bootcamp where I am working very hard at a great curriculum that has been honing my skills in advanced Javascript, Git/GitHub, unit testing and RESTful API's (my favorite!).

By the time I am done I will be a certified software engineer with solid front and back-end skills including Node, ReactJS, Redux, Flask, postgresQL, SQLalchemy and express,

I am VERY excited about joining a creative team to work together to make beautiful and effective code.

Creating is one of the things I enjoy most in life. You might have picked up on that from all the crazy pictures of me.

I spent my younger years traveling the world as an illusionist and comedy hypnotist. And then later I have spent a lot of time helping people challenge and change bad habits through hypnotherapy.

So I like to think that I'm fun to be around, a VERY dedicated and self-starting project manager and have great communication and motivational soft skills.

If you are an employer or contractor looking for a new consultant or developer -- I hope that you'll find my skillset and portfolio to your liking. I'd love to talk with you.

Or if you're just a friendly curious soul I hope you've enjoyed my work so far. I have lots more on the way.

And if you are looking for my entertainment sites you can find videos of my shows and mobile escape rooms in the links below. Yes I still do these things now and then (at least, I will again when Covid-19 has moved along). I am just more selective and travel a bit less nowadays so I can be home with my kids.

Thanks for hanging out!
